East meets West

So my plan for this trip was to just hang around Istanbul for a week. I found a hotel in a very good location at an affordable price. I read RICK STEVES ISTANBUL and figured I could see everything I wanted to see in a week without waking up early every morning and being exhausted at the end of the trip. WRONG! Before I even made it to my hotel, I wandered into on of those offices that sells tours and had a 4 day excursion planned before I even got to my hotel. I enjoyed Istanbul. The people were probably the friendliest I've experienced in my travels so far.  The food was good, but became repetitive after a week.

The place of Churchill's disgrace, but it goes to show that you can always bounce back from failure. This was the closest I've ever been to Greece. My original plan for this trip was to visit Greece instead, but when I ran the numbers, Turkey cost less than half of what I would have spent in Greece. I will still visit Greece someday though!
