I spent a few days in Missoula in October 2001. At the time, it was an unusual experience for me. I remember hanging around the city and rediscovering my love for bicycling. My cousin was studying at University of Montana at the time, so it was a convenient excuse for a trip out there. One day we drove to Spokane and stopped in Coeur d'Alene, on the way. I remember the excitement of seeing 2 states i never thought I would see. I would not include WA in that list since Seattle (a must see for any music fan) is there, but Spokane is far from there.

Missed Rick.......off to Chicago!!
![]() |
We boarded the Empire Builder train in Edmonds rather than Seattle. We spent the prior night within walking distance of Europe Through the Back Door. Since the train did not leave until the evening, I had a chance to spend the morning walking around Edmonds. I knew very little about Edmonds except that it is where Rick Steves lives and works out of. It was a nice place though. I spent about 30 minutes walking around ETTBD, but Rick was not around. As I expected, he's usually in Europe working on his guidebooks.
